Convenince Promising Small Scale Food Store



JAKARTA: Development convenince outlet store with a small service food service is considered more promising, recent local retailer looks clean to the same concept.

"Convinience store with food service is more promising than the mini market. Turnover margin must be higher because fresh food is higher than the usual snack packs," said Yongky Suryo Susilo, Director of Retail Service Nielsen Business when contacted today.

Yongky explain the principles of development of these formats is the location and product offerings. Retailers should look for traffic locations to live 24 hours and close to the target consumer. 

According to him, trends srvice convinience stores with food is accelerated by young people, but its main segments are not only young children. Potential customers that format is a middle-class community with a lifestyle that is always looking for convenience. 

"The main segment can residents in apartments, offices. For example, office workers who do not have much time for lunch, they go to convenience stores," said Yongky. 

If retailers find potential locations to capture the appropriate segment of the mini market outlets that exist to convert stores by changing product offerings. Offering a distinctive product in a format that one of them is fresh drinks like coffee. 

Therefore, not all mini market stores will convert the format because each region has different needs. Yongky affirm the current growth of convenience stores with a new food service at the beginning stage, there are no data to detect how much growth. 

"7-Eleven for example, may be stuck until this year only about 50 outlets. Circle K, which is rather a lot, about 300, but not all there is a food service outlets such as in Bali," he explained. 

Looking at these developments, Indomaret develop Indomaret Point which now consists of 41 outlets and is expected to grow to 81 outlets by the end of 2011.Indomaret Point opened in some areas such as transit stations Senen and Gambir station. 

Wiwiek Joseph, Marketing Director of PT Indomarco Prismatama explain also will target areas of the airport, but still encountered some obstacles, such as airport reception party. "Airport outlets sometimes only want one just for each type of business, making it somewhat difficult for us to go in there," he explained.
